“MANTAN Everyday" - CHAPTER 5"

Chikage: ——Well, how’s that story for you?
Tsuzuru: Uhm. Yeah, that’s…!! That’s a bit too……!!!
Juza: It’s really…... What’s the word….. Intense.

Chikage: You think so?
Omi: Hm? Tsuzuru and Juza…. Even Chikage-san is here. It’s quite a rare sight to see you all together.
Tsumugi: Actually, are you two alright? Tsuzuru-kun and Juza-kun both look tired for some reason.
Tsuzuru: We were……. just listening to a story……..
Chikage: Both of them wanted to collect some stories about part-time jobs. I was just sharing one anecdote that I had from a long time ago.
Tsuzuru: I did say I was willing to hear about anything, but not something this intense!!
Juza: The beginning must be the most straightforward part of it….
A story about encountering a loose lawnmower while making a delivery, then getting a reward from the landlord for stopping it——
Then it turns out that the landlord was a mafia boss who was on the international wanted list……..
Tsumugi: That’s kind of…..
Omi: Sounds like it was quite the unorthodox interview…
Chikage: I still think it was a good experience. You learn what it’s like to have your life on the line.
Well then, shall I pass the baton to Tsumugi and Omi? I have a feeling these two may have stories that may prove useful to you guys.
Tsuzuru: Right… I have a feeling I’ll be back to familiar grounds if I can study from them….
Chikage: With that out of the way, I’ll go to my room for a change of clothes. Can I have you guys pass the souvenirs to the others for me?
Tsuzuru: Sure thing. Thanks for going along with my request, even when you just came back home from your business trip.
Juza: Thanks.
Chikage: You’re welcome.
Tsuzuru: …Err, Chikage-san just mentioned it, but I’m currently doing interviews about part-time jobs.
If it’s alright with you two, can I hear about your stories as well?
Tsumugi: Of course, I don’t mind.
Omi: I’m not sure if I can meet your expectations, but…
How about we chat over some egg pudding? I had been cooling them in the fridge since earlier.
Juza: For real…?!
Tsuzuru: Let’s do that then, thanks.
(Just after we had some cookies from Chikage-san too… Am I really doing interviews, or am I doing some kind of snack relay instead?)
Juza: Egg pudding….
Tsuzuru: (Well, Juza seems pretty happy, so I suppose it doesn’t matter.)
— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Juza: ……Yummy.
Tsumugi: The gentle taste of the egg is really delicious.
Tsuzuru: It’s so velvety and smooth on the tongue. I can see myself getting addicted to this.
Omi: Haha, glad you all like it.
Tsuzuru: Okay. Shall we start the interview then?
So, you two. Among all of the part-time jobs you’ve done until now, what’s the one that’s left you with the strongest impression?
Tsumugi: It’s the home tutor job, in my case, definitely… It’s the one I’ve been doing the longest, and the one where I encountered the most people.
Tsuzuru: Encounters, huh…
When you grow up, it’s very common that you start being surrounded by people who are either close to your age or much older, isn’t it?
But when I do home tutoring, I’d encounter middle-schoolers and other kids whose ages are much far from my own. And it’s because of that difference that I get to learn about perspectives that I wouldn’t be able to see myself.
There are a lot of troublesome parts in the job too, of course, but I always end up feeling glad that I get to do this.
Tsuzuru: I see…. How about you, Fushimi-san?
Omi: Since I had my rascal period, I would often try not to involve myself with home that much during those times. Which also meant I don’t have a lot of part-time job experience either…
These days though, there are a lot of jobs I’ve thought of trying. And when I think of wanting to do it, now I'm able to feel like I can actually do it.
I think if it were my old self, then using up a short amount of the spare time I had was probably already enough.
But in contrast, it feels like being in this troupe has allowed me to challenge myself to all sorts of things— that each of those challenges would have meaning to them. It’s fun and refreshing to have that now.
…At least, that’s how I think about it, optimistically speaking.
Juza: …I guess there’s that perspective too. I gotta write that down—it might be useful for later.
Tsumugi: But when we’re talking about part-timers, then Tsuzuru-kun is the first to come to mind, right?
Omi: Indeed. How about we ask you this time?
Juza: I’d like to ask some questions too.
Tsuzuru: EHH!?
Tsumugi: Let’s switch up the interview, shall we? So, Minagi Tsuzuru-san, if there’s a part-time job that left you with a strong impression, please tell us.
Omi: Whether it’s the ups or downs of one, or even the one that gave the best hourly wage.
Tsuzuru: Uhm… Alright. Well. I wonder…….
(The ups and downs. A good hourly wage….. And encounters….)
——There’s one that just came to mind.
