“To You Who Flies to the Future" - CHAPTER 2"
grad2024-ev-1

Tenma: Kazunari and Kumon are the graduates this year, right? Feels like it was yesterday since I graduated from high school myself.
Azami: I get what you mean.
Kumon: Riiiight~ Can’t believe it’s graduation season already!
Izumi: A year just flies by before you know it, huh.
Omi: Come to think of it, Kazunari isn’t here again, is he?
Banri: He’s aimin’ to be a freelancer after grad, so seems like he’s been pretty locked in with all that stuff relating to it.
Muku: It seemed like he finishing up a piece for graduation, so he’s occupied with making a portfolio for work-related purposes.
Kumon: I heard he’s been going to like those uhh… Social gatherings and banquet meetings? Stuff like those!
Tenma: Yeah. He said it’s all to build up some networking.
Sakyo: So that’s why I haven’t been seeing him around that much lately.
Citron: It’s been a little quiet without Kazu though…
Tenma: You don’t think he’s gonna miss his own graduation ceremony amid his tight schedule, do you…?
Azami: Well. If it’s Kazunari-san, I’m sure he can manage it somehow.
Omi: I’d like to believe so, too. I just hope he hasn’t been pushing himself; with how late he’s been coming home, he must be pretty tired by the end of the day.
Izumi: Should we prepare him another light meal for when he comes back?
Omi: Right. Something nourishing would do him good too.
Izumi: What about you, Kumon? Do you feel sad about graduation yourself?
Kumon: Hmmmm, honestly, I don’t particularly feel that emotional of the sort! I mean, it’s not like I’ll stop seeing Yamaguchi and my friends after graduation. Plus I can always see Azami here at the dorms!
There’s stuff I’m gonna be a lil’ sad about leaving, but I think I’m just a lot more excited to start my uni life soon~
Tenma: Well, can’t say I don’t get how he feels.
Kumon: Oh right! I need to buy some things for uni prep soon, do you wanna join me in shopping, Azami?
Azami: Ha? Why me?
Kumon: Why not! Let’s go together! Oh, and we should go eat somewhere after that too!
Azami: I mean, I guess I’m fine with it…
Citron: Speaking of shopping! Oh, everyone, I must ask you something.
My little brothers, Orange and Navel, have been studying overseas in a short-term course… They’ll be set for graduation very soon.
So I’d like to ask what would be some ideal gifts that I could give to them.
Muku: Graduation gifts? That’s a lovely idea!
Citron: Bye-bye way, what sort of presents are custom in Japan?
Sakyo: “By the way”, you mean.
Well. Graduating means entering the society of adults, which means something useful would be custom— like an expensive ballpen or a business card case.
Omi: I received some sake on my graduation; that’s an option as well.
Izumi: Other possible gifts would probably be key pouches or watches. Small convenient items like that.
Citron: Hm hm, I see I see~ I’ll be using those as reference.
Omi: Speaking of, we even did a graduation ceremony for the O High graduates right here at the dorms. [1]
Tenma: That was all for my sake wasn’t it, Omi-san? And your idea, no less. I was really overjoyed back then.
Muku: It was such a wonderful ceremony too! I was so moved watching it happen back then.
Citron: I even saw a graduation scene in a drama recently. There’s really something about Japan’s graduation ceremonies~
Like how everyone would wrap it all up by cleaning up their school during the celebrations— oh the image is so moving!
Kumon: Cl-cleaning…!? Do we really do that sort of thing?
Azami: Uhh. ‘Course not.
Sakyo: He means the graduation farewell address, not cleaning [2] —Those speeches that a junior student recites in the ceremony as a send-off for the graduates.
Citron: Oh!! I got it mixed up!
Sending their farewells to the graduates with sentimental words is such a lovely thing though~! Truly, Japan’s graduation ceremonies are wonderful on their own!
Banri: As far as I know, ceremonies overseas would usually have speeches coming from the rep’ of the graduates only, right? Least, that’s what I’ve seen.
Izumi: I suppose even in graduation the culture differs from country to country, huh.

Kazunari: I’m home~......
Muku: Kazu-kun! Welcome home.
Izumi: Welcome back.
Kazunari: Huh, why’s everyone here?
Tenma: We were just talking about graduation ceremonies.
Omi: You managed to come home a little earlier this time, Kazunari.
Kazunari: The meeting today ended sooner than all the previous ones before~
